FATES high performance, renewable foam relies on sustainably sourced carbon materials that are synthesized from plant-based biomass. FATES is a high-performance, sustainable foam without the negative environmental impacts of traditional polyurethane, which relies on petrochemicals.
FATES has been GreenCircle certified up to 74% renewable material. Everything in FATES supply chain was assessed to the strictest sustainability criteria. With 74% bio-content, we directly reduce the carbon footprint by up to 400%. All this, while exceeding the quality and performance of standard polyurethanes. As for performance, compared to standard polyurethane foam, FATES demonstrates a significant improvement in strength and elongation. With its increased resiliency and durability, FATES products last longer than traditional foams and therefore do not need to be replaced as often, translating to less waste. In addition, FATES also has a lower density than standard polyurethanes, resulting greater efficiency and sustainability benefits. When it does come time for disposal, its new carbon materials are easily recycled back to the earth through composting, unlike polyurethane foams that usually end up as landfill. Where possible, Bestol cooperates with Evoco, Canada-based developer and manufacturer or FATES, to utilize their innovative, sustainable foam for our insoles and footwear.

Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs) are the premier choice of soft, elastic materials due to their robust properties, appealing costs and versatility. They can endure considerable stretching while still maintaining their structural integrity; and are true thermoplastics that do not require vulcanization. On the hardness spectrum, they can range from quite rigid to soft, tactile and gel-like.
Thermoplastic elastomers are ubiquitous and can be seen in action all around us. This versatile polymer is ideal for many applications and can be customized for your manufacturing needs. TPEs are resilient yet soft to the touch and are a commonly chosen polymer for grippy plastics like those found in sports and exercise equipment. And like plastic, TPEs can be colored, making them applicable to a range of products from toys to medical equipment, and indeed footwear and foot care.
The softness of TPE’s can make it difficult to properly bond them to harder materials via over-molding. Fortunately, Bestol are experts at over-molding, and can produce complex parts for diverse industries and applications using these versatile materials. We have the skills and experience to achieve the tight tolerances over-molded products require, regardless of complexity.

CLEANSPORT NXT is a pro-biotic technology that provides a method of odor control within athletic products and footwear. Beneficial microbes, which are found all around us and are naturally occurring, and bonded to the surface of the fabric. This innovative process of applying live micro-organisms to fibers, results in natural, non-toxic health benefits to consumers and the environment.
Think of CLEANSPORT NXT as probiotics for your feet. This unique additive brings a natural odor control process to footwear for the first time.
Through extensive research and testing, CLEANSPORT NXT selected naturally occurring microbes that are effective eaters of sweat and its unpleasant by-product: odor. When introduced to sweat in a shoe environment, these microbes immediately go to work to produce a fresh smell, ultimately leaving behind only odorless water and carbon dioxide.
As important as these microbes are to creating a fresh environment, without CLEANSPORT NXT’s patented process for attaching microbes to fabric, the results would be far less dramatic. By attaching and bonding up to 100,000,000 microbes per square inch of fabric, the surface finish starts to take effect immediately on contact, creating beneficial enzymes that devour and digest sweat.
Surface treatment is done immediately after fabric production. It is fast, inexpensive and as beneficial to your customers as it is to the planet.
Where the product or market demands, Bestol cooperates with CLEANSPORT NXT to apply their innovative, natural antimicrobial to our materials and products.
Linen is an environmentally friendly material that grows naturally without pesticides, fertilizer or irrigation.
Grown from flax plants, linen requires little water, and is biodegradable. It’s durable, resilient, and actually gets softer over time. Stronger than cotton, Linen absorbs moisture without retaining bacteria, making it an excellent anti-microbial material option. Linen is breathable, keeping you warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.
Linen, because of its strength, breathability and sustainability makes it appealing for many applications, including certain sportswear and activewear.
Recognized by its unique qualities, texture and aesthetics, Cork is an excellent, sustainable alternative to leather, foam and plastics. It is natural, renewable, biodegradable and recyclable, and 100% environmentally friendly.
Cork is naturally harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree. Its layered, cell-like structure renders it highly elastic, allowing it to endure significant forces and dissipate energy, without losing its flexibility. This makes it an intriguing material for cushioning and performance products.
Cork has a natural resistance to moisture and together with its lightweight, wear-resistance and capacity to disperse energy, is a perfect choice for certain insoles, orthotics and shoes.
Wool is the world’s natural, technical fiber and is renewable, biodegradable, recyclable and can be produced organically. Wool is naturally antimicrobial, breathable and an excellent insulator. It has a natural water resistance and wicking quality which makes it attractive for sportswear and performance applications.
While wool is a wonderful, natural material, producing wool is a resource-intensive job. It requires vast amounts of land for grazing sheep, water to clean the fiber, chemicals to treat it and dyes to color the finished product. Where possible, Bestol uses recycled wool to extend the lifespan of fiber that has already been produced. This allows us to offer fabrics with the excellent properties of virgin wool at a fraction of the environmental cost.
EVA Foam Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) is one of the most common materials used in the manufacturer of foot beds due it’s light weight, and cost-effectiveness. EVA is soft, light, flexible, and easily moldable and one of the most cost effective, best shock absorption materials available today.
It’s ideal for many footwear, foot care applications and sports performance applications. EVA is considered ecologically “friendly” as it doesn’t require chlorine in it’s manufacture, and can be readily recycled into other products. Bestol manufactures with an extensive range of EVA foam composites, and we look forward to helping you on your next molded foam project.
D3O technology is currently used worldwide by leading sportswear, electronics, and industrial brands to enhance performance and protection qualities. D3O is a patented technology that delivers rate-sensitive, soft, flexible materials with high shock absorbing properties ideal for performance and impact protection products. Founded on non-Newtonian principles, their molecular structure enables the material to lock on impact, dissipating the resulting force and consequently reducing the risk of injury. When it comes to sportswear, footwear and foot care, D3O is a pioneer in the development of shock absorbing ‘smart materials’ that deliver maximum protection while retaining optimal flexibility, with no compromise on comfort.
Polyurethane elastomers (PU) are part of the polyurethane group and are formed by combining hard (isocyanate) and elastic (polyol) parts, and changing these selections creates the superior qualities of the polyurethane elastomers. Urethane elastomers are strong and durable and are best suited for applications where flexibility, elasticity, and abrasion resistance are important.
Urethane Elastomers are cross-linked systems with high elasticity and tensile strength that allow them to maintain their shape when stretched. They can be formulated to be highly resilient, returning most of the energy back to the source or to be very dissipative, converting most of the impact energy into heat. This raises the temperature of the urethane part, and making urethane gel a good thermal insulator.
This fluid-like property and energy dissipation makes for excellent cushioning, which makes urethane elastomers ideal for applications like footwear, foot care, sports protection and vibration dampening.
Our elastomer material capabilities, state-of-the-art equipment and capable engineering team ensures, precision and quality and reliability in delivering innovative products for our customers.
