Ball of the foot or metatarsalgia is a a symptom that can have many possible causes. Metatarsalgia usually results in pain and inflammation in the padding directly below the toes, which is where we place the most force, when standing or moving.

Although generally not serious, metatarsalgia can result in short term, debilitating pain. Fortunately, home remedies such as ice and rest can relieve the symptoms. Wearing proper footwear with shock-absorbing insoles or inserts, or arch supports can prevent or minimize the pain associated with metatarsalgia.
